After hiking in the Blue Mountains, I roadtripped toward the Idaho Panhandle and did several peaks along the way, to include Oregon Butte, which was my first mountain in Washington ironically enough. Eventually I got to meet up and crash with Mara for a while while my body recovered, but I still got the chance to knock out Spokane and a pair of P1k buttes just over the border. I was planning on going north and hiking more in Eastern Washington, but my health took a nosedive after steptoe, and while I was able to get the treatment I needed, by the time I was ready to it was already too cold and too close to us moving farther west to be practical.
Oregon Butte lies on a maintained trail accessed from Teepee Trailhead, which requires nearly 20 miles of dirt roads to get to from Dayton, but in my opinion, a sedan can make it the entire way easily, although there are a few rocks and bumps in the last mile that might require a bit of caution. Oh yeah, and expect a fair amount of washboarding along the way. Anyhow, the hike was beautiful and I was glad I took the small extra bit of elevation to get up West Butte, as it provides more great views of the area!!! The fire tower on top of Oregon Butte was manned (or possibly womanned based on the silhouette of the hair, but I was feeling antisocial so I scurried along back down. A delightful hike
Spokane was an easy drive up up paved roads with delightful views up top
Starting from the county campground, we took the most direct route up to the summit, which was a gradual and beautiful wooded trail. The summit area was very beautiful and I'm happy to have gotten out there :)
Steptoe has a bumpy but paved road up to the summit and a beautiful expanse of views. I took the chance to wear my new romper to the summit and it turned out nice! I'm gonna try and make an effort to dress up more for my photos on some of these easier peaks because it's so fun to!
